The History

York has so many stories to tell from days gone by. Founded in around AD 71 by the Romans, Eboracum (as the Romans called York) was born. In 866AD, The Vikings invaded the city, a significant moment in York’s history, something which you can learn all about at JORVIK Viking Centre! Our boutique hotel in York recommends taking a stroll along the City Walls and taking in impressive views of the many medieval buildings.

The Pubs

Fancy a pint in a traditional English pub? Then York is the place to go! It was once said that the city has a pub for every single day of the year (365), we are unsure if this remains to be true, but even so, that’s a hell of a lot of pubs! The oldest date back to 1644, so be prepared to duck under low beams and cosy up near open fireplaces with a local beer. Or why not do a bit of a pub crawl?

One of the best-preserved streets in the world, and a tourist hotspot, The Shambles is enough to bring anyone to York. The narrow cobbled street, which was once a street of butchers, is now lined with independent shops, cafe and restaurants. It is also dubbed ‘The real Diagon Alley’ being home to a number of Harry Potter inspired shops. The perfect place to pick up some souvenirs, or just take some gorgeous photos!
