This year the York Food & Drink Festival, taking place from 22nd September to 1st October, is celebrating its 21st anniversary! Our boutique hotel in York has put together a brief guide to help you make the most of this fabulous festival.

Market stalls will be scattered across the city and not far from our hotel in York, selling everything you can imagine from chocolate to cheese, wine to bread, even Yorkshire wine! There will be plenty of samples on offer to tempt you! Pick up a unique present for a friend or just a treat for yourself!

Learn a new skill

Many demos and masterclasses will take place throughout the festival, giving you the chance to get stuck in and learn something new. For those with a sweet tooth, you won’t want to miss the York Chocolate Story demonstration, just a short distance from our hotel in York. If you’re a beer fan, make sure to catch The Botanist’s ale demonstration and tasting! There’s also a Young Chef’s Competition where you can watch talented youths battle to be crowned Young Chef of the Year 2017!

Follow the Taste Trail

Indulge yourself with a sample of their produce and walk on to discover more delights. We proudly stand in the historic neighbourhood of Walmgate, just a short walk from all the city has to offer.

At one point Walmgate had 20 pubs on the street, today it is a cool mix of independent restaurants, bars and shops and continues to Fossgate – which boasts even more independent shops, delis, bars and restaurants. Walmgate Bar proudly stands at the end of the road. It is the only existing bar in York with a Barbican and forms part of the York City Walls walk.

As a Yorkshireman, York is one of my favourite places to visit and I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit York as it will add to your overall experience. I visit many hotels in the UK and Europe during the course of my job and I can not remember feeling so pleased with my choice of hotel.
