York has to be one of the most romantic cities in the UK. The historic city serves as the perfect retreat for couples looking to escape their busy lives and spend some quality time together. Our hotel in York explores some of the ways you can spend a romantic weekend in our beautiful city!
Hop on a river cruise
Float along the River Ouse, as you and your partner see the city in a different light. Whilst onboard, sit back, relax and admire iconic York attractions, like York City Walls, York Minster and The Shambles. City Cruises York has a variety of sightseeing cruises available, including romantic candlelit evening cruises (for that extra bit of romance!)
Take a chocolate-making workshop at York Chocolate Story
Nothing says ‘love’ more than homemade chocolate, and there is no better place to try your hand at being a chocolatier than at York Chocolate Story. Unwrap the history of chocolate and discover the stories behind some of the greatest names in confectionery, like Rowntree’s and Terry’s which were founded right here in York. At the end, you and your partner will get a first-class lesson in how to make the sweet stuff from expert chocolatiers.
Spend a cute day date at The Shambles
No romantic getaway would be complete without a ramble around The Shambles. Mooch around the little alleyways and boutique shops or stop for a brew and bake in the quirky coffee shops and cafes. Add some more magic to your day with a trip to the Harry Potter shops, located at the bottom of the street. If you’re a self-confessed Potterhead, you’ll be in your element here with merchandise inspired by the wizarding franchise – it really will feel like you’ve stepped into Diagon Alley.
Candlelit dinner and cocktails
Lucky for you, York has a vibrant food and drink scene! There are plenty of romantic restaurants and bars which are perfect for a delicious three-course menu or couple of relaxed cocktails. For a candlelit dinner, we recommend Lucia’s, Piccolino or our very own No.88 Walmgate, located in our boutique hotel in York. Fancy a tipple after? Head to the Botanist, Fossgate Social or Dusk.
