NO.88 WALMGATE RESTAURANT OPENS AT OUR YORK HOTEL

No. 88 Walmgate is the latest restaurant to open in York’s most foodie of destinations. Inspiring diners to delight in all things Yorkshire, the focus is simple, cracking dishes with lots of local flavours and seasonal ingredients.

88 Walmgate

Everybody’s favourites are on this menu, I want guests to enjoy warm Yorkshire hospitality with delicious local food and have a great night out.

– Mike Sweeting, General Manager Hotel Indigo York, boutique hotel in York.

West Riding steaks, Harrogate blue cheese and – of course – Yorkshire pudding are among the hand-selected dishes on the main menu. The Yorkshire Wagyu Steak Burger is set to become a firm favourite. Wagyu Beef was once only eaten by Japanese emperors but we won’t be checking your credentials! A Plate Pie of the season with its light puff pastry topping, features chicken, beef, boar or mutton according to what’s in the market or chef’s mood that day. Fish lovers can choose between Roasted Sea Bass with, chive mash or Grilled Salmon with spinach and tomato butter sauce.

Puddings feature strongly on our York hotel's restaurant menu. Choices include Strawberry and Wakefield Rhubarb Crumble, Almond Bakewell Tart and a delicious Mature Wensleydale Cheese. Diners in a daring mood should try the 88 Freakshake – a riotously decadent concoction of local Yorvale ice cream and toppings – but you may not finish it!

A mix of local craft ales and beers appears alongside a well-chosen wine list to complement the menu or simply enjoy at the bar with some simple bar snacks.

No. 88 is open daily from 12 noon until 10 pm for food in York and you can choose your dishes to suit the time of day. At lunchtime, there is a short selection of soups, sandwiches (or butties if you prefer) the Yorkshire Wagyu burger and beer battered fish and chips. The house salad features Yorkshire feta cheese and a garlic dressing. The restaurant also offers a special menu for young diners, a lunch menu including the ‘ey-up butty’ and tapas-style selections, which are ideal for sharing.

The restaurant was designed by architects Matthews Mee and is a light airy space with different seating areas to suit your mood. The 65 cover restaurant also has a separate area ideal for private parties of 10.

We proudly stand in the historic neighbourhood of Walmgate, just a short walk from all the city has to offer.

At one point Walmgate had 20 pubs on the street, today it is a cool mix of independent restaurants, bars and shops and continues to Fossgate – which boasts even more independent shops, delis, bars and restaurants. Walmgate Bar proudly stands at the end of the road. It is the only existing bar in York with a Barbican and forms part of the York City Walls walk.
