Spring is well under way in the historic city of York with a wide range of events to entertain you over the May bank holiday weekends. From festivals to markets, York has a variety of activities for everybody to enjoy.

York Farmers Market – 3rd May, Parliament Square

Held on the first Friday of every month, York Farmers market offers Yorkshire’s local delicacies and shares fresh and local produce from around the region. This month’s traders include Shire honey, Highfield Textiles, Bobsie Chocs and Jane Schaffner Pots.

A festival of dogs 4th – 6th May at Castle Howard

If you fancy a fun packed programme of dog themed activities, then this is for you. Organised by the Ryedale Dog Rescue, A Festival of Dogs is a family dog show, which showcases some of the region’s best pooches. There’s plenty of entertainment for all the family including our canine visitors too with prizes being awarded for categories including best in show and the most handsome hound. As well as other activities including food and drink stalls. The ground opens at 10am and closes at 6pm.

Yorkshire Hearty Festival – Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th May at Yorkshire Heart Vineyard

Returning for the 5th year in a row, the Hearty Festival celebrates Yorkshire in all its glory with over 30 real ales, English wines, Yorkshire ciders and even a gin and fizz bar! It’s fun for all the family, with live music throughout the day, including bouncy castles and inflatable assault courses as well as various caterers on the day.

First Saturday – 25th May at York Racecourse

The horse racing season is just getting started at York Racecourse and the first Saturday is fast approaching, kicking off with the recent pattern race, the Group 3 William Hill Bronte Cup. It’s the perfect opportunity for a full day of racing with the first race starting at 2pm.

Katherine Jenkins – Friday 24th May at York Barbican

Britain’s best-selling classical artist Katherine Jenkins OBE is returning to the York Barbican on Friday the 24th May to promote her new album “Guiding Light”. Tickets are still available to purchase including VIP hospitality packages to have the opportunity to meet Katherine herself – be quick as tickets are selling out fast!
