Spend Easter in York

York is the UK’s home of chocolate, known as the birthplace to three of the worlds biggest chocolate making dynasties – Terry’s, Rowntree’s and Craven’s. It should, therefore, come as no surprise that being a chocolate filled season, Easter is one of York’s biggest religious festivals. In this blog, our boutique York hotel explores what is on offer for big and little kids in York this Easter!

The great York bunny search

Back for another year, look high and low to find 26 hidden bunny sculptures. Each has its own quirky design, which mirrors their mischievous personalities. Dust off your detective skills and hop around the city in search of them. Head to the York Chocolate Story, trail sponsors in Kings Square, just minutes from our York city centre hotel, to check out the bunnies and learn about York’s delicious chocolate heritage. A certain ‘Easter Bunny’ told us the bunnies love to hide in windows, so perhaps start your search there.

York Chocolate Festival

Moving on… or not, the York Chocolate festival will be on Parliament Street between 19th – 22nd April. Tuck into some of the best chocolate in the world at the chocolate market or gain some serious chocolate making skills in the demonstration tent. If that isn’t enough, be sure to stroll round to the Shambles Food Court for even more sweet treats!

Easter at Beningbrough Hall

Benningbrough Hall is a stunning 18th-century baroque style country house, gallery and garden. It is a must visit during your stay and just a 30-minute drive from our boutique hotel in York. The gardens literally come alive at this time of year with the arrival of baby animals and others waking up from a long winter hibernation. It is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon this spring and an ideal antidote to the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

We proudly stand in the historic neighbourhood of Walmgate, just a short walk from all the city has to offer.

At one point Walmgate had 20 pubs on the street, today it is a cool mix of independent restaurants, bars and shops and continues to Fossgate – which boasts even more independent shops, delis, bars and restaurants. Walmgate Bar proudly stands at the end of the road. It is the only existing bar in York with a Barbican and forms part of the York City Walls walk.
