The Association of Voluntary Guides to the City of York (AVG) is the oldest and most popular free walking tour in York. In the summer (1st June – 31st August), tours will leave daily at 10.15am, 1.15pm and 6.15pm from the York Art Gallery in Exhibition Square. So, put on a comfy pair of shoes, walk a short distance from our hotel with special offers in York and explore the best of the city on foot.

We proudly stand in the historic neighbourhood of Walmgate, just a short walk from all the city has to offer.

At one point Walmgate had 20 pubs on the street, today it is a cool mix of independent restaurants, bars and shops and continues to Fossgate – which boasts even more independent shops, delis, bars and restaurants. Walmgate Bar proudly stands at the end of the road. It is the only existing bar in York with a Barbican and forms part of the York City Walls walk.

As a Yorkshireman, York is one of my favourite places to visit and I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit York as it will add to your overall experience.
