What’s On in York this November

With the run-up to Christmas officially on, November is an exciting time to visit the city of York. To give you an insight into what’s on, our boutique hotel in York explores some of the top events and activities happening close by…

 

Bonfire Night & Firework Displays

Like any city, York doesn’t fall short when it comes to Bonfire Night, with parks, country houses and organisations across the city getting involved in the annual holiday. Going all out for the 5th November, visitors can expect huge bonfires, stunning fireworks displays, delicious cosy food and even funfair rides! Some of the best displays include; York Maze, Rawcliffe Country Park and Poppleton.

A Christmas Carol musical

Scrooge and his ghostly encounters take to the Joseph Rowntree stage in the fantastic  A Christmas Carol’ between 14th- 17th November. The musical follows the story Ebenezer Scrooge, a nasty man who hates the festive season, one night he is visited by 3 ghosts: Ghost of Christmas Past, Ghost of Christmas Present and Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come, who show him the error of his ways. The 3-night spectacle will be sure to get you and your family in the Christmas spirit!

Late Night Shopping

Yes, it’s that time again, Late Night Shopping has begun in York city centre! Thanks to ‘Thank York It’s Friday’ visitors and local residents can now shop ‘til they drop after closing hours on Fridays. Whether you want to mooch around the little boutique stores, pick up goodies from big retailers or fancy a late-night meal. What’s more all Park & Rides now have buses that leave the city centre after 11 pm.Christmas presents
 

Christmas Light Switch On

 

Nothing kicks the Christmas festivities off more than the York Christmas Light Switch On, which happens every November in St Helens Square. Like every year, the lights will be switched on by a local celebrity (yet to be announced) and visitors can expect music and festive activities. This year’s York Christmas Light Switch On is happening on the 15th November from 6.30pm!

We proudly stand in the historic neighbourhood of Walmgate, just a short walk from all the city has to offer.

At one point Walmgate had 20 pubs on the street, today it is a cool mix of independent restaurants, bars and shops and continues to Fossgate – which boasts even more independent shops, delis, bars and restaurants. Walmgate Bar proudly stands at the end of the road. It is the only existing bar in York with a Barbican and forms part of the York City Walls walk.
